Katharina von Bora is an historical grand opera written by conductor and composer Mihai Valcu, with lyrics by Bill Zeiger.
While following classical opera tradition from Jacopo Peri to Puccini, its melodic and orchestral color appeals to the ear of today’s pop music fandom. Thus, it is the first and only pop opera in the music literature. It is a completely different genre from the musical, the operetta, or the jazz or rock opera.
Katharina von Bora treats the life of a simple 16th-century woman who becomes the wife of Martin Luther, one of the most notable men of his time. The work takes a non-religious approach.
